An event like PIGShibition doesn’t just “happen.” It’s the hard work of many dedicated volunteers and also through the generosity of individuals, organizations and businesses, all of whom share and support the idea that literacy betters and empowers the NWA as a whole. This Sponsor Spotlight segment focuses on our partners of the PIGShibition event , offering a “behind the scenes” look into the “why” of PIGShibition, the decision-making process and highlighting each sponsor’s thoughts toward literacy and community involvement.
As the world’s largest protein producer, Tyson Foods Inc. literally brings a lot to the table. We at the Ozark Literacy Council are pleased that Tyson Foods is working with us to help promote the cause of literacy. We sat down with Annetta Young, Director of Corporate Philanthropy at Tyson, to get her thoughts about what PIGShibition means to them:
What was it about PIGShibition and the Ozark Literacy Council that persuaded you to be a part of this unique event?
As a long time supporter of the Ozark Literacy Council, we wished to be a part of this fun, unique event for our community… and to support continuing literacy programs in the process.
Why did you pick the pig design that you did? What was it about that design that spoke to you above all the other great choices?
Because we already have a life-size “cow-chicken” at Tyson Foods from another state’s “Cows on Parade” event, we wanted a design that would reflect a pig with wings, and Ronie Sparkman’s colorful “When Pigs Fly” certainly fit the bill.
Several people have commented on the fun design and the wonderful surprise of discovering our bright pink pig with wings at the Fayetteville Public Library. We hope patrons continue to enjoy the Tyson sponsored PIGShibition work of art while it’s on display.
